Hi. I am looking for information on the treatment of tendonitis in the
lower leg in the ankle. It is irritated by weight-bearing activity.I
have heard of using antiinflammitories and was wondering how effective
Ant inflammitory drugs - also called NSAID's - are very effective. I am not a physician, but this is the advice I give my patients when they ask - The drug is required to be taken at theraputic doses for it to function as a NSAID.. The blood has to be tiutrated at a certain dose - different for each specific drug. Below those doses, the drug functions as an analgesic (pain killer) kind like Tylenol. The family of drugs inhibits the formation of prostaglandin, a neurotransmitter for pain, and an activator of macrophages - a large scavenger cell involved in the debridment of a wound prior to scar formation (fibrosis). In this maner, inflammation is decreased, and wound healing can occur uninterupted.
Of more importance, is understanding why you hurt. Treat the mechanism of injury rather than just treating the symptoms!
