Neil I have always trained.I here people talk about cross trainning when it comes to running can you explain this to me thank you.
Excellent question Mickey. I get asked about cross training often. Most people think that cross training is simply playing another sport. This is not always true.
Remember that there are three planes of function: Sagital, frontal and transverse (forward/back, side to side, and rotation). Running is primarily a sagital plane activity, and as such, cross training for running should emphasize the frontal and transverse planes. We put people in roller blades for frontal plane activities, and have them do free weight training for emphasis on transverse plane activities. Basketball and swimming are also good transverse plane activities. Step aerobics can also get you moving in the transverse plane.
Thanks for the question.
