4 years ago I had a proximal/distal patella realignment. Just a few months ago I had surgery for a torn medial meniscus. I just started running again and am having pain on the tibial tubercle where the screws are placed a well as in the joint where the cartilage was repaired. My question becomes, is there something I can do to relieve this pain and is running still ok? I am a triathlete who is trying to come back for the 99 season but can not run more that about 2 miles and still be able to walk in the morning.
It sounds like you have residual pain following the surgery - if you were pain free prior to the latest surgery, you should be able to recover from the latent effects of the procedure. Take it slow, and use tons of ice to keep the pain quiet.
Work on weight bearing quad exercises. Check your biomechanics - (they are probably unusual because of the need you had to have you patella realligned). I wonder if you wear orthotics? I would wager that you need to. Also, a knee brace might help for a while, and "McConnell" tape might be an adjunct.
Keep me informed about your progress. I am interested in our experience following the patella reallignment.
