I am a 44 year old male who has not run or trained in 7 years. I last
ran a marathon in 1993 (Honolulu). I wish to run Honolulu this year. I
am currently 85 kg ( my race weight when I ran my PB 2hrs 42 min 11
years ago was 58kg).
My question is how should I start to train? I am concerned that the
older I get the better I was and I might over do it in the first few
months. I intend to combine bicycle road racing with my running so I can
enjoy my 2 favorite sports and reduce the risk of injury. I would like
to run around 3 hrs to 3 hrs 05 in Honolulu.
G'day Ken - start by walking and cycling - and modify your diet to help you lose
those extra kilos! Your instinct is a good one - You need to start slowly, and
cross train to avoid injury - and lay off the beer mate!
