I've embarked on a quick daily jog on a treadmill in '99--20 minutes
@4.8-5.0 mph. Previously, I've jogged two/three times / week over the
past couple of years for a max of 2-3 miles @ a time. Now , I'm
suffering w/ what feels like a knotted muscle in the sole of my foot.
My massage therapist worked on it w/ a lessening of pain, but I've not
dared to run on it. What's going on here? I've had it for the last 3
days & sometimes I feel it when I walk, sometimes not, but if I apply
pressure to the area with my hands it definitely is uncomfotable,
bordering on painful.
Thanks for your assistance.
Ava, it sounds like you might have a cuboid syndrome. This is a condition that is casued by the cuboid bone being slightly rotated by the tendon of peronius longus as it turns under the foot. It can be easily treated by a quick manipulation. Most podiatrists know about it, and often many physical therapists will be able to reduce it as well. Once manipulated, make sure that you secure the foot with a low dye tape job for a few days. Again, most therapists can help you here.
Good luck.
