what can you tell me about exercise induced asthma?
Linda, this is a really good question. First, don't let exercise induced asthma
(EIA) interfere with your participation. Jackie Joyner Kersey (sp?) suffered
from EIA, yet she was the top woman athlete in the world for so many years. My
son suffered from asthma as a young child, and every now and then, he gets
exercise induced asthma, especially after intense effort is expended. Asthma
usually takes several factors to be stimulated. n my sons case, for example, he
is more likely to get it in the spring (pollen allergies), in a new envirnment
(foreign allergens), and when under stress, all combined. His EIA is only a
factor when he sprints an 800 or 1500 meter race. Even then, it is only slight,
and is easily controlled with the use of an inhaler. The best protection he has
found, is to have better cardiovascular endurance. He is more subjected to EIA
at the beginning of the season than the end when he is in better shape. Hope
