Hi Neil:
I am very frustrated. I started running short distances (5Ks and 10Ks) in
earnest 8 months ago. I feel great for the entire race two weeks out of the
month. The other two weeks are frustrating experiences. Right in the middle of
my monthly cylce, I find that I run about 1.5 to 2 miles before succumbing to
something that feels like menstrual (not abdominal or side) cramps. They are
sufficiently painful that most times I can not run through them. However, if I
stop to walk for 2-3 minutes, they subside sufficiently to resume running and
complete the race just fine. This also happens with more severity about 5 days
before my menstrual period. I have tried dosing on Aleve and Advil 20 minutes
before a race. This does not cure problem although it makes cramps less severe.
Do I just have to put up with this? And walk them out as I have been doing or is
there something I can do so I can at least for the two frustrating weeks of the
month complete a race without cramping or needing to walk for 2 to 3 minutes?!
I do not have any good advice for Linda. If anyone else has suggestions, please
e-mail her, and send me a copy of your e-mail so I can learn form your
exerience.
Thanks, Neil
