Yesterday I was helping carry a kayak up a steep incline, on a forward step
I felt a "pop" in my calf and pain similar to a charlie horse. The pain is
not constant and seems to occur only on a forward step. I was able to
climb the remainder of the incline using a side stepping action.
I have tried 800 mg of Ibuprofin, and this morning am trying 7.5 of Vicodin
which seems to help a little. Any other thoughts and what is it I have done?
Connie, it sounds like you ruptured your plantaris muscle tendon. Plantaris is a
small musle with a loooooong thin tendon that runs down into the achilles
tendon. It plays a very small role in the function of the achilles, so don't
worry too much about it. Ice, stretch, and use the NSAID's. Gradually increase
activities as you feel up to it, and check with your doc if things don't change
after a week or so.
