My name is Matthew and about 14 months ago I had a fasciotomy
performed on my left leg. I had been diagnosed with exertional compartment
syndrone. The sugery was performed by the a Navy orthopedic surgeon at
Bethesda. My incision was only about 5 inches long. I now will need to
have the other leg operated on. I am no longer in the military so I have
to find a competent docter who can do the surgery. I went to see a few and
was scared by what they were telling me. One said that he was going to cut
me from the knee to the ankle! One said that a serious complication is
acidentally cutting the nerve that goes to the ankle, which would severly
limit my ankel control. I felt very comfortable with the navy doctors.
The procedure lasted only about 45 minutes and I was home about two hours
later. Half of the staples were removed at the 10 day make and the rest
about a week after that. I was running lightly withing three weeks! I was
running hard within five weeks!. The only problem I have is with my other
leg.
My question is: Can you recommend some good (great) doctors who
do (and have done) compartment release surgery in the New York City to
Washington D.C. area?
I don't know if this is related but.... I have notice that when I
walk with sandles on the toes on my left foot don't naturaly lift up and
back to keep the sandle from slipping off. I have to conciously think to
do this.
Sorry Mathew, I can't help you locate a physician in the NY-WA DC area, (I am in Seattle). I hope that others can respond with a referral for you when they read this post. Thanks in advance.
