I have two questions about fasciotomy of the leg for treatment of
compartment syndrome. Are there any serious, long-term side effects to
the surgery, and do you know of any alternatives to the surgery for
actually correcting the problem?
Allison, unfortunately I am not aware of any reasonable alternative to the treatment of compartment syndrome. In my experience, when the surgery is appropriate, the outcomes are outstanding, with the individuals moving back to normal activity in reasonable amounts of time.
