I have recently been diagnosed with compartment syndrome in my anterior and lateral compartments in both legs. Resting pressure in anterior compartment was 25, post-exercise 60. I don't remember the numbers for the lateral compartments post-exercise. Doc recommends surgery, but I'm worried about it. Will my muscles bulge noticeably after surgery? My calved and shins are already very muscular for a woman, and I don't want to look like a freak. Also, what about recovery time? Scarring? Any other complications I should be worried about? Especially long-term effects?
Thanks in advance,
Shantelle, you can relax...I usually do not recommend surgery, but in this case, surgery is a no-brainer. It helps a ton, the recovery is fairly quick, and unless the surgeon is a boob, the scars will hardly be noticeable. Ordinarily, the post surgical complications are limited to getting started too soon. If you allow the scar to heal, and you introduce activity on a gradient, you should be fine.
Good luck!
