Mike,
Everyone has a unique metabolism. to figure it out, you need to undergo metabolic
testing to see where your peak fat burning heart rate is. Also, the testing will show you
exactly where your aerobic threshold is - the point where you switch from fat to sugar and
go anaerobic. Using this data, you can build a training program that is best suited to your
metabolism. Also, by understanding exactly the point that you switch to sugar
metabolism, you can adjust your high end training to keep you just under your aerobic
threshold. Also, to be able to run faster, you need to do interval training. To get faster, you
have to run faster! Since you are in Seattle, you can get this tested at our Bellevue clinic
(Sports Reaction Center).
