Two summers ago i suffered a femoral neck stress fracture in my left hip. It was on the compression side, and took about three and a half months to recover from. I never had more than two sessions on PT as it had cost so much to diagnose, couldn't work etc. I was therefore too scared to work out for nearly a year and a half. I returned however in January. Everything was fine, but in the last month i have really picked up on the cardio, especially spinning. Now over the last week, pain has returned in my hip. Its painful in my groin, and feels like a stabbing pain occasionally in my buttock.
Is it possible i have redeveloped my stress fracture? Is spinning safe? I am still ok to walk, and walk downstairs. Plus i was a lot lighter at the time of the original stress fracture...and was suffering from ammoreah....however now i have an increased weight and regular cycle thanks to the oral contraceptive pill. How worried should i be?
Hi Emily, I would be surprised if you re-fractured while spinning. My guess is that you have developed a hip bursitis, but I cannot be sure with the information you provided. I also think that given your history you should consider getting a bone scan to rule out a re fracture just to be sure!
