by Michael Scott (Dedham, Mass July 10, 1999) -- Five meet records fell tonite at the Reebok Boston High Performance II meet at Northeastern University. Athletes lowered meet records in both 800s, both 1500s, and the men's 5000. Canada's Robyn Meagher, a 1992 Olympic 3000 finalist, lowered both the meet and stadium metric mile record with a stellar 4:08.53 for 1500. Debbie Marshall (4:10.91), Miesha Marzell (4:13.43), Rachel Sauder (4:14.64), Kathy Fleming (4:14.90), and Krestena Sullivan (4:15.26) all finished under the old meet record. Marla Runyon, who last Saturday recorded a World Championships 1500 qualifying mark at the New Balance Maine Distance Festival, continued her winning ways with a run-away victory over 800 in a meet record 2:03.18. Amy Ross (2:03.52) and Diane Cummins (2:03.53) also finished under the old meet standard. On the men's side, Mike Schroer recorded his second win in as many starts with his 1:48.46 meet record win over Lubert Lewis' 1:49.18. Former Stanford standout Jason Lunn led 9 others under the old meet standard with his personal best 3:41.37. Lunn surged away over the final straight from Scot Anderson (3:42.02) and Kipp Ortenberger (3:42.25). Jason Balkman lowered the 5000 standard by over 12 seconds with his 14:06.91, while Donna Garcia ran away with the women's 5000 in 16:15.42 to establish a standard in this event, which was being run here for the first time. Former Wisconsin star Donovan Bergstrom caught USATF bronze medalist Francis O'Neil in the final straight to win the steeple in 8:35.24. David Cullum (8:39.86) also caught the world championships-bound O'Neil (8:40.16) in the final meters. The CanAm Circuit moves Tuesday to its first stop in Canada with the International de Demi Fond at the University of Sherbrooke.
