MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 1, 2000) - Registration for the 19th
running of the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 8 is now full. This year's
field of 8,000 closed in 31 days. In 1999, the field of 7,500 filled in 37
days. TCM continues the national trend of major marathons like Boston, Marine
Corps and Walt Disney World closing in record time.
A full weekend of running events is planned. Runners and their families are
encouraged to participate in the Health and Fitness Expo and Runner's World
Seminars beginning on Friday, Oct. 6, the Saturday Events on Oct. 7 including
the 5K Fun Run/Walk, the Creamette Kids' One-Mile Fun Run, Galyan's Kids'
Half-Mile Fun Run, Radio Disney's Toddler Trot, the Diaper Dash and the
Creamette Pasta Party, and the 10-Mile Race on Sunday, Oct. 8 prior to the
start of the marathon.
Registration forms for the Saturday Events are now available at local
running stores. Runners can also register online at the marathon website,
www.twincitiesmarathon.org, or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to TCM
Saturday Running Events, 2925 Dean Parkway, Suite 110, Minneapolis, MN 55416.
Registration for the 10-Mile field of 2,500 will begin on July 17.
Registration forms will be available at local running stores, health clubs and
the TCM office. Forms can be requested by sending a self-addressed stamped
envelope to TCM 10-Mile at the above address or can be downloaded from the
marathon website. During the inaugural year in 1999, the 1,500 10-Mile field
closed in 3 days, so runners are encouraged to send their entries in early.
Entries for the 10-Mile will only be accepted via regular US Mail. Sorry -
faxes, walk-ins or special deliveries will not be accepted.
Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. is a non-profit organization that directs the
Twin Cities Marathon as a community service for the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
For the tenth consecutive year, the Twin Cities Marathon, a Founding Member of
Running USA, hosts the USA Masters Championship and another outstanding 40 and
over field is expected. In 1999, it was the 11th largest marathon with 6,000
finishers and has been described by Runner's World as "The most beautiful
urban marathon in America." It is also ranked as the #2 destination
marathon in America.
