SNOQUALMIE, WA – The Ridge to Rails Trail Run kicks off its
inaugural race
Saturday, August 5, 2000 in Snoqualmie, WA. Incorporating nearly 5 miles
of soft-surface trail, the 6.3 mile course offers a hardy challenge to
both the weekend warrior and the experienced trail runner. Also planned
is a 4.6 mile Family Walk through neighborhood parks and trails featuring
spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains. The race and walk finish in
downtown Snoqualmie amid the celebration of the city’s 62nd Annual
Railroad Days festival being held August 4 – 6, 2000. Proceeds from the
race benefit the Mountains to Sound Greenway.
“I think this Run is a great addition to the Snoqualmie Railroad Days
festival,” said Fuzzy Fletcher, mayor of Snoqualmie. “It adds another
dimension to an already great celebration. With the Run, parade, food and
craft vendors, and the Tour de Peaks bike ride, we have a three day event
that will hopefully become the highlight of the Valley festival season.”
Beginning at 7:00 AM, race participants can enjoy pre-race festivities
including coffee from Starbucks, refreshments, and entertainment for the
children. The family walk begins at 9:00 AM with the trail run
starting at 9:15 AM.
Plenty of excitement is planned for the end of the race as well, complete
with live music from Jr. Cadillac, refreshments provided by Red Hook
Brewery and Talking Rain, and an endless pasta bar. Cash prizes of $250
each go to the overall top male and female winners of the trail run. The
top overall male and female winners in the “Under 14” category of the
trail run receive a new BMX “Fat Boy” or “Fat Girl” Mountain Bike. The
first 500 registered runners receive specially designed “CoolMax”
T-shirts. All remaining runners and all registered walkers receive 100%
cotton T-shirts.
Everyone who registers is also entered in the prize drawing for a chance
to win one of the many door prizes being given away during the grand
finale celebration. Prizes include free tickets on Southwest Airlines,
rooms at Salish Lodge and Spa, Sonicare Toothbrushes, prizes for the
children, and much more! Pre-registration fees for the Trail Run are $20
and increase to $25 on the day of the event. Family Walk fees are $10 for
Adults and $5 for children.
