MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - (July 27, 2000) - In its second year, the Twin
Cities 10 Mile, a part of the Twin Cities Marathon weekend, reached its field
limit of 2,500 in record time on July 19, 2000. Due to the early closure,
Twin Cities Marathon will auction off 100 additional 10 mile race entries to
benefit its selected charities: Bolder Options, Second Harvest Food Banks of
the Twin Cities and the Twin Cities Marathon Scholarship Program for High
School Cross Country/Track Student Athletes.
The minimum bid is $50 and one bid is allowed per person. Bids must be
accompanied by a check or money order made out to the Twin Cities Marathon.
Checks for non-winning bids will be returned. All bids must be postmarked no
later than Monday, August 7, 2000 and should be mailed to: Twin Cities 10
Mile Silent Auction, 2925 Dean Parkway, Suite 110, Minneapolis, MN 55416.
The 100 highest bids will be accepted for entry into the 2000 Twin Cities 10
Mile and winners will be notified as soon as possible after the auction. All
amounts over $25 registration fee are tax deductible and will benefit the
three charities.
Bolder Options links at-risk youth with adult runners and bikers in a
12-week program that teaches them about running and setting goals for leading
healthy, positive lives. During that time, the youth participate in two 5K
and one 10K races.
The local Second Harvest Food Banks are part of America's Second Harvest
network, the country's largest hunger relief organization.
The scholarship program is in its first year of development and will
benefit local area high school seniors who are involved in running through
either cross country or track.
