NEW YORK - (October 11, 2004) - Kristin Armstrong has announced her
plan to run the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 7.
She is the former wife of Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, a
contributor to Runner's World magazine and a leading advocate for
Fertile Hope, a charity dedicated to cancer and fertility.
A member of Fertile Hope's board of directors, Kristin Armstrong
will run to raise funds for the organization and to spread awareness
about cancer and its effect on fertility. She has three children
with cancer survivor Lance Armstrong thanks to the fertility
information and resources that were available to them.
"Often a person's hope for survival is tied into their dreams of
having a family," says Kristin Armstrong. "Lance and I were
fortunate to have timely information and great doctors. We are
incredibly blessed by the miracles of Luke, Grace and Isabelle."
A relative newcomer to running, Kristin Armstrong finished the 2003
Dallas White Rock Marathon, her first, in a time of 3:48:24. She
wrote about the experience in the August 2004 issue of Runner's
World. She is particularly excited about running her second marathon
in New York City. "New York City embodies hope," she says.
