Olympia High School - Class of 1976

      Dear Classmates:

Seeing each of you at our 20-year reunion has been a true highlight for me - renewing old friendships and catching up on our lives' journies. I hope you had as much enjoyment.

Our classmates' profiles are contained in this book, as are their addresses, current as of the reunion date. We are still seeking contact information for classmates that are not listed with address and phone. Details in this process of finding classmates, including for the future are spelled out on page 39. Please review the information on page 39 to help us in the ongoing search for classmates and update information.

We owe a debt of appreciation to a number of our classmates who helped make this reunion happen. Finding classmates is, by far, the largest chore. Denny Brooks, Jill (Barner) Cooper, Steve Cooper, Jay Christianson, Steve Leicht, Pam (Cummins) Leicht and Kim (Havlisch) Fraser were especially helpful with finding classmates. Lyn (Rogers) Craig, Teresa LaFond, Kim Havlisch and Wayne Clare helped decorate the ballroom - and a fine job they did. Nancy Hastings did an excellent job with arrangements at the hotel. Dan Contris, CPA, accounted for all receipts and expenditures. These folks deserve your gratitude.

From this 20-year reunion effort emerges a legacy of materials in organizing for future class reunions. Computers were useful, including the creation of brochures, tracking finances, building this book and making badges. We did data searches for classmates and found a fair share from the beginning using computers. All 600-odd photo scans in this book are now archived as digital data and can be used for future reunions. We can update the relational data base with address information as often as we receive it. This automation was scarcely available when we were organizing for our 10-year reunion, and who knows what tools we will have available for our 25 and 35 and 50 year reunions?

While computers have been a blessing, they have also, caused heartbreak on this memory book project. A computer hard drive crash required me to completely rebuild this book when it was previously near completion. Computers bog down anyway with this much graphic data (600+ scans), everything runs slow. At 10 minutes each to create each scan, plus inputting and organizing the data, then double the job in rebuilding the job - well, the picture becomes clear as to what it took took to get this book to you. I hope you enjoy it - and use it to contact friends.

Speaking of computers, quite a number of you have e-mail addresses which we will soon be pursuing so as to make them available in a future directory. This class reunion provided a modest residual bank account, which we will use to track classmates in the next few years with post cards, including an inquiry for e-mail addresses. Post cards returned undeliverable indicates another person we'll have to look for. Generally, our addresses are more stable at this stage in our lives than previously. These factors will help reduce the effort of finding classmates for our 25-year class reunion in 2001.

      Sincerely,
      Charlie Kirry
