Char Simons wrote an article about this race and it was published in the Ft. Steilacoom Running Club Newsletter and The News Tribune of Tacoma. So successful was the article we attracted a runner from Ft. Worth Texas, Taylor Richards and he brought four volunteers, Mike, Elaine and Alyce Richards, all of Ft. Worth and Suzanne of Puyallup. The Richards volunteer team timed the race. Taylor took first in his age division and was 6th overall; pretty good for a 15 year old on a training run.

The article also attracted the Groo family of Puyallup; just look through the results and see how well they did. The Groo family earned one first female overall and four first places in age and one third place. One of the first places belonged to 79 year old Beth. We also attracted four participants from Anderson Island, six if you include the canine contingent, both volunteers, they just decided to come out of their yards and go for a friendly run.

Low key and great fun; the race director lied liberally saying, "there are no hills on the course," following up with a clarifying, "only mountains." Ken Olive, Equipment Manager suggested putting a smiley face on the upper slope of one mountain when we were setting up the course; the runners commented positively, guess we will have to make that part of the regular course markings.

The weather cooperated and the heavy rain waited until most of the runners had returned to the warmth of the Anderson Island Community Club and a hot meal.
