Hard Core Runners Club Winter Race Series Race #3
December 31, 2000 - 5 Miles

The third race of the five race series started and finished at the East Valley Intermediate School parking lot on New Year’s Eve day. The weather was ideal for the day; winterish. Starting time temperature was about 36 degrees, cloudy sky, with snow and slush on parts of the course. The course is scenic along county roads with pastures and orchards for scenery. A nice ‘undulating’ uphill is from mile point 2.4 to 3.3 which elevates the heart rate, but all of the elevation gain is lost by mile 4 with a flat course to the finish. The last HCR’s club sponsored race of the 2000 year was won by Buck Jones of Columbus, Ohio was visiting his parents in Ellensburg. Aaron Matthias of Yakima closed within 3 seconds at the finish to place second. Clay See, Ian Brown, Mark Currell, Travis Roberts, Jeremy Rice, Ken Yager, Manuel Santos and Gregg Harnish completed the top ten males. The first woman finisher was Lisa Goulet, who placed 15th overall of the 79 finishers. Following for the top ten women were Amber Green, Michelle Jacob, Rosanne Bacon, Diane Jones, Gina Cacchiotti-Sattler, Jody Scheffelmaier, Beverly Stuart, Holly Cushman, and Becky Drew. The races of the year 2000 are now complete but 2001 will see the final two races of the Winter Race Series on January 14 and 28. “Think Cold - Think Snow” - Hard Core Runners Winter Race Series 2000-2001.
